This help facility provides an insight into the CIAView technology used, and provides the technical support that may be required.
Starting with Windows Vista, the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) Performance Counters dynamically provide performance data on all aspects related to computer functionality.
Only partial functionality will be available for the older Microsoft Operating Systems like Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 2000.
It can take a few seconds for the WMI Counters to be initialised. Thereafter response time will be acceptable.
WMI can be used to manage and access WMI data on remote computers.
If CIAView is run locally on a Server, no security problems will be encountered. When CIAView is used to measure activity on a remote Server, all the Microsoft Windows security restrictions need to be overcome.
To connect to a remote computer, there must be a network connection, network access must be enabled to the remote computer, the user must have permission to connect, there must be no Windows Firewall or User Account Control (UAC) restrictions, etc, etc.
For technical advice on the connectivity required, see Connecting to WMI Remotely Starting with Windows Vista.
When an unlicensed version of CIAView is run, the following form is shown at start-up:
To obtain a permanent version of CIAView, first make a payment using PayPal or by clicking the "Make a Payment" link.
When payment has been made, you need to supply the name of your Server. Click the "Send Email" link, and send the Email – the name of the computer will be in the Subject.
On receipt of payment and the Computer Name, you will then be provided with the Release code. This should be inserted into the Release Code field of the Form, and Saved.
Although each version of CIAView is Licensed to be run on only one Server, CIAView can access the WMI counters of all the networked Servers and computers in an installation.
All errors are recorded in a log file. The format of the log file is "ErrorYYYYMMWW.log" (i.e. Error20120208.log), where "YYYY" is the Year, "MM" is the Month, and "WW" is the Week of the year. The log file is written to the same Folder as CIAView.exe.
A copy of the log file should be sent to me.
If you have chosen the 'With Upgrades' option, the old version of CIAView should be uninstalled before installing the new.
